In need of some ear plugs

Litkia went to Student Life Kids Camp this week at Shocco Springs.  Camp ended today and she just got home.  She looks like she hasn't brushed her hair since Monday and her mouth will not stop moving.  I really missed her while she was gone, but If I hear "and guess what" one more time, I'm likely to fall over dead.  Okay, maybe not.  But man is she wired and smiley...and talky.

Blind AND funny

Conversation on the way home from dinner - It's dark out.

Beej: Oh man, what is that in the road? Is that a dead kitten?

Dirty Larry:   I don't know.  I don't have my glasses on. I can't see a thing. All I see is two red lights in front of me.

Beej:   Wow, is that the best you can do? Why is it that I'm not driving? Can you tell if those two lights belong to a car or a truck?

Dirty Larry:   It's a truck....or maybe a dragon.

No cherk - Good fortune

We tried a different Chinese restaurant today. Too bad for some people that this place doesn't accept cherks for payment. Good thing for us we weren't planning on paying with a cherk.

This week, somebody (Leslie) told me something about my personality that I knew to be true, but I didn't think it was quite so noticeable in my everyday behavior with the masses.  Then a second person (Junebug) confirmed it and it was a little upsetting.  Then today, I opened my fortune cookie, and all was right with the world again.

"Your candid approach is refreshing."

I'm glad to know that being mean and coming across as pretty much dissatisfied and ornery is refreshing for you all.  I plan to continue this behavior as needed until desired result is accomplished.

Enlightening you one dot at a time

  • Tonight on my walk, I noticed that the whole neighborhood had the distinct smell of puppy breath. Now, let me tell you...no matter how pleasant and happy puppy breath is on a puppy, it's infinitely less pleasing when it saturates a two block radius.
  • I find that sometimes people just need to shut up. Sometimes when people don't shut up they just look stupid and end up making the smart people want to hurt them.
  • 30 Rock is the funniest thing since...something REALLY funny.
  • School starts Monday.  One school takes in earlier than last year and one takes in later than last year.  Can you guess how this will present a problem?
  • I'm going to see Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick tonight at The Wharf in Orange Beach.  I plan to make my hair very big and wear neon bangle bracelets and possibly stirrup pants with leg warmers.
  • Somebody needs to do the danged laundry over here. I'm not even kidding.

Went on a JOURNEY that touched my HEART

So even though I was a little skeptical about the concert the other night, I was pleasantly surprised at how great it was.

Heart was truly amazing. No, they didn't look exactly the same...but wow. It was them. They sounded great. And Journey didn't really look the same either with their new, very young looking, 40 year old lead singer (Arnel Pineda) but again....it was them and they sounded fantastic.

This man sounds so much like Steve Perry it's spooky. It took me a minute to get used to the voice coming from the wrong face, but I got right over it. He's so much prettier than Steve, who could possibly complain?

Almost as entertaining as the music was the drunken sot who kept going up and down the steps searching fruitlessly for his seat amongst the crowd. I did cringe a bit when he fell over people, but I figured as long as it wasn't me he was tripping over I could stay smiley. So I did.

Another bobo list

Things I'm having trouble believing or just find astonishing.

  • School starts in the morning.
  • I have to get up at 6:00.
  • I still haven't formulated a plan on how to pick both my kids up from school on time.
  • Pateriko actually finished his summer math workbook and read his three books by the deadline imposed by his lovely school.
  • I forgot how to graph linear equations.
  • You can remind yourself how to graph linear equations using this amazing internet that Al Gore invented.
  • Dirty Larry will finally be 40 next week.
  • I have no clue what I want to do when I grow up, even when I concentrate intently.
  • I'm actually not TRULY qualified to do many things I think I could do well.
  • I'm considering leaving a work at home job where I make my own hours.
  • My mama wouldn't walk me to class in the 2nd grade.
  • I'm still nice to my mama (ask anybody).
  • I've made yet another bobo list for the blog.

Tonight Litkia and I were talking about her new teacher. I have yet to meet her, but I've heard really nice things about her. Litkia had a very somber look on her face when she said, "What if she doesn't like redheads?"  I was concerned for exactly one second because little Litkia couldn't keep the smile from creeping on her face. She was just trying to evoke a reaction from me, because she knows that kind of talk makes her mama start preaching the wonders of her brilliant offspring. I think I've overdone it in the "you are amazing and wonderful children" department. Both of my kids think they are the smartest, best looking and most loved of anyone...and heck, what can I say? They are. Now I just need to talk to them a little about humility. Sadly that's one subject I know very little about.

Cheese Wagons/Yellow Fever/Chirping Mexican Food

It's been a good first week back to school.  Dirty Larry was home all week, which took a little of the hectic feeling away. The decision has been made that Litkia will ride the bus home in the afternoon. She's against it, but we have no choice. I can't be in two places at once.

Today we drove across the bay to Blakeley State Park. We spent some time hiking  trails, inspecting old Civil War fortifications, drifting through a cemetery where victims of yellow fever were buried and just generally having fun. Here's some proof.

At one point during our exploration, Pateriko stopped suddenly and said "What's that noise"? Litkia piped up immediately and matter-of-factly..."It's a quesadilla". After I quit laughing and pointing at her, I remembered that I was the mother and used the obvious teaching moment to correct her..."it's cicada".

Twilight with a little guilt

Okay. I read it...and yes, of course I love Edward Cullen. Who wouldn't be smitten with a beautiful, golden eyed, sweet smelling, smooth talking vampire? I wonder if it's okay that I'm not a teenager and I still inhaled the book in two sittings. I wonder if it's okay that I'm pretty sure I'll have read the next two books in the series before the week is out. I think it's no different than reading that last 700 page Harry Potter book in one fell swoop.  Some people just have the gift of storytelling. I have the gift of sitting at their feet and absorbing all they have to say.

The last book I read was "The Giver". Again, a book intended for a much younger audience. Ate that one up pretty quickly.  I read "The Other Boleyn Girl" and loved it with all my heart, so I picked up "The Constant Princess" by the same author.  I was so ill when I realized I was NOT enjoying it because as most of you know I have that disease that causes me to HAVE to finish a book that I start, whether I like it or not. Therefore, "The Constant Princess" took me weeks on end to finish.

I also have that disease where I'm addicted to adding the books I've read to My Library Thing. That really, really makes me happy. It's like a party...but not one of those lame birthday parties where they make you play pin the tail on the donkey. Oh! Unless the prize is a giant brand new 200 count box of Crayola Crayons with the sharpener built right into the danged box!  In that case you can no longer call the party lame and you might even be tempted to say you can't see through your blindfold when in fact you actually can, and then you pin the tail exactly in the right spot on the donkey and the lady asks you if you're SURE you can't see, and you say "no I can't see", and you win the crayons. Not that this has ever happened to me personally. I'll bet a person would have to live with a lot of guilt for a very long time if they did something like that. Not that I would know. I'm just speculating.

Dang, I gotta go now.

Heebie Freakin' Jeebies

Coco called me tonight to see if I was watching the Democratic National Convention. I told her I wasn't but she agreed that if there was anything I needed to glean from that business I could always read the blog of TwoDogs to find out what I missed.  I mention his name here because today I found out that he is here merely for the beejites to be drawn to him. See how pleasant and accomodating I can be?  Now, armed with that information (that I am pleasant and accomodating), I just have something I need to say. I'd like for those of you who have read this blog for any length of time to agree with me when I say I come off here as fairly apolitical.  I spend an awful lot of time not taking sides and trying not to be offensive to my minions. And when I say this thing I'm about to say, I mean no ill will to any of you. I could name those of you who won't like this. Just be aware that I'm aware.  Okay, here goes....Obama gives me the willies.

There, I said it.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Poor Larry David.  He's just trying to be affable.  Talk about passive aggressive. But more than poor Larry David, let me just say poor Cheryl David. Could any person possibly want to roll her eyes up into her head more than this poor, poor woman who is forever attached to him in holy matrimony?  Dang.
